ABSTRACT

The World Bank Group (WBG) plays a crucial role in global development financing, yet criticisms persist regarding its effectiveness in promoting inclusive and sustainable growth. This study examines critical reforms needed to enhance the World Bank Group’s effectiveness in promoting inclusive and sustainable development. Through a qualitative policy analysis, the research evaluates two key mechanisms: microcredit expansion for marginalized groups and NGO partnerships for grassroots development. While microcredit programs show promise in empowering women and stimulating local economies, they face challenges of over-indebtedness and limited structural impact. Similarly, NGO collaborations improve project implementation but struggle with capacity gaps and elite capture. The study proposes an integrated framework combining financial inclusion with systemic interventions, emphasizing affordable credit models, long-term NGO capacity building, and robust impact measurement. Findings suggest that the WBG must evolve beyond isolated financial solutions to address deeper inequalities while maintaining accountability. The paper concludes with actionable recommendations for reforming the WBG’s approach to achieve equitable and sustainable growth.
