This study examined the relationship between business intelligence and the organisational agility of oil and gas servicing firms in Rivers State, Nigeria, together with the moderating role of technology adoption propensity. Business intelligence was proxied by data mining and data visualisation, while organisational agility was proxied by responsiveness and adaptability. The study was anchored on the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology and the Dynamic Capabilities Theory. Adopting a cross-sectional survey design, the accessible population comprised 850 middle-to-top management staff of the 53 midstream oil and gas firms in Rivers State registered with the Petroleum Technology Association of Nigeria (PETAN). Using the Krejcie and Morgan table, a sample of 265 was drawn through simple random sampling, and a structured, five-point Likert questionnaire was administered. Two hundred and twenty copies (83.02%) were retrieved and 202 (76.23%) were usable. The hypotheses were tested at the 0.05 level using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modelling (PLS-SEM) via SmartPLS 4.1.1.9. The measurement model satisfied indicator reliability, internal consistency (composite reliability 0.885–0.928), convergent validity (AVE 0.567–0.722) and discriminant validity (Fornell–Larcker and HTMT). The findings revealed a moderate, positive and significant relationship between data mining and responsiveness (β = 0.399; p = 0.000); a weak, positive and significant relationship between data mining and adaptability (β = 0.280; p = 0.000); a weak, positive but non-significant relationship between data visualisation and responsiveness (β = 0.152; p = 0.235); and a strong, positive and significant relationship between data visualisation and adaptability (β = 0.546; p = 0.000). Technology adoption propensity did not significantly moderate the business intelligence–agility relationship (β = 0.115; p = 0.186). The study concludes that business intelligence is a meaningful but unevenly acting antecedent of agility, and recommends that firms institutionalise data mining and visualisation while embedding these tools within organisational routines.
