This study investigates the relationship between innovation strategies and the performance of small-scale agro firms in Rivers State, Nigeria. The key objective is to assess how product, process, and organizational innovation strategies influence operational performance, financial performance, and customer satisfaction in these firms. The research adopts a quantitative approach, utilizing survey data collected from a sample of agro firms in Rivers State. The study employs Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) to test the hypothesized relationships among the variables. The findings reveal that product innovation strategy significantly influences operational performance and customer satisfaction, indicating that the introduction of new products and improvements in existing ones can enhance the competitiveness and customer loyalty of small-scale agro firms. Similarly, process innovation strategy is found to have a positive relationship with operational performance, suggesting that improvements in production processes contribute to better efficiency and cost reduction. However, the study finds that while process and product innovations significantly impact operational performance, their effects on financial performance and customer satisfaction are less pronounced. Organizational innovation, which encompasses changes in management practices, internal structures, and employee involvement, is shown to significantly affect both operational and financial performance. This highlights the importance of strategic management in fostering innovation within small-scale agro firms. Despite the observed relationships, the study identifies several barriers to innovation adoption, including inadequate access to technology, high costs of implementation, and lack of skilled labor. The study concludes that innovation strategies, particularly in product and organizational dimensions, play a crucial role in enhancing firm performance in small-scale agro enterprises. However, the challenges associated with their adoption need to be addressed through supportive policies, improved access to technology, and training programs for employees. The findings have significant implications for both practitioners and policymakers aiming to improve the sustainability and competitiveness of small-scale agro firms in developing economies like Nigeria.
