The introduction of intelligent logistics schemes into the international trade routes has emerged as one of the predominant forces of change in the field of supply chain management in the global economy, along with the development of digital technologies, including the Internet of Things, artificial intelligence, blockchain and data analytics. These technologies boost real-time visibility, coordinating and decision-making of cross-boundary logistics networks. This paper is a literature synthesis providing an overview of the current literature on the role of smart logistics systems in enhancing efficiency, resilience and connectivity in international trade corridors with special focus on interconnected smart hubs that combine ports, rail, road networks, logistics facilities and digital platforms into integrated multimodal systems. The paper is informed by the Dynamic Capabilities Theory, Network Theory and the Resource-Based View to examine how interconnected smart hubs in key corridors such as the Belt and Road Initiative, the Trans Caspian route, and new digital trade corridors in Africa and the Middle East are strategic. The literature suggests that the implementation of smart logistics systems helps to decrease transit times, reduce operational costs and volume of trade by enhancing multimodal coordination and data-driven operations. Nevertheless, issues associated with gaps in infrastructure, regulatory fragmentation, cybersecurity threats and disparate technologies adoption are still prominent, especially in developing economies. The research points to the significance of harmonized policy frameworks, the investment in the digital infrastructure and capacity building programs that will facilitate the successful implementation of smart logistics systems. All in all, the results of the study highlight the strategic significance of intelligent logistics systems in the development of resilient, sustainable and integrated global trade avenues.
