ABSTRACT

The study on Virtual Team Management and Employee Engagement of Multinational Oil and Gas Companies in Nigeria, explores the influence of virtual team management on employee engagement, especially within the context of Nigeria’s oil and gas sector. Key variables include relationship-building, communication, leadership, coordination mechanisms, and job satisfaction as a moderating factor. The study aims to assess how these virtual management practices affect employee engagement dimensions like vigor, dedication, and absorption. The methodology involves a structured survey distributed among managerial and non-managerial employees in Nigerian multinational oil and gas companies, creating a sample reflective of various organizational levels. Hypotheses were tested through regression analysis to determine the significance of different virtual team management practices on employee engagement outcomes. The findings indicate that relationship-building and supportive leadership significantly enhance employee engagement, with effective communication and coordination mechanisms being crucial for maintaining employee vigor and motivation. Leadership style, specifically supportive leadership, showed a strong impact on satisfaction and engagement, while job satisfaction emerged as a key moderator in the virtual management-engagement relationship. The thesis recommends prioritizing relationship-building initiatives, developing supportive leadership frameworks, and improving virtual communication strategies. It also advocates for integrating advanced technology to foster virtual collaboration. The research contributes practical insights for multinational companies aiming to improve virtual team dynamics, enhance engagement, and boost organizational performance in high-stakes industries. Further research is suggested to address cultural and technological factors, potentially expanding the framework’s applicability to other sectors.
